Killer Cards 🔪

Packaging, Print

Independent work, 2019

Killer Cards was a passion project I created in the Summer of 2019. The concept behind the project was to create baseball cards for some of the most notorious serial killers in American history. Similar to baseball cards, the front side has an original illustration of the subject and the back is dedicated to their bio and fascinating facts and statistics about them. I illustrated 25 different serial killers and researched all of the content that appears on each card. In addition, I created an information design system based on color coding and symbols that explains the subtle nuances of each killer’s crimes and history. I manufactured the packaging for all 5 editions that feature iridescent bags and custom designed stickers and stamps.

25% of all profits from this project go straight to End The Backlog, a division of the Joyful Heart Foundation that is dedicated to eliminating the backlog of untested rape kits across the United States.

After graduating from Northeastern University in 2018 🎓, McKenna cut her teeth at Sametz Blackstone, a small, 40+ year strong studio in 🦞 Boston. She then moved on to the tech space, spending her pandemic years learning the ins and outs of cutting edge technology 💻 and working with some extremely talented folks along the way. In 2023 she landed at Ellen Bruss Design, where she helps lead the design team and owns all web production 🫡 . When she's not in the studio, you can find McKenna hitting new PRs on leg press 🏋️‍♀️, watching Seinfeld re-runs 📺, and crocheting 🧶 while her cat tries to attack the string 😻.
